Hurricanes Continue Strong Performances At BIG EAST Championships

Uniondale, NY (www.hurricanesports.com) – – Friday evening, University of Miami swimmer Manon Van Rooijen successfully defended her title in the 200-yard freestyle event and today she is on pace to do the same in the 100 free.

This morning during the preliminary round, Van Rooijen took first place in the event with a time of 50.14.

In the same event, Christine Williams finished in sixth place (51.23).

The previous evening saw several outstanding performances from the Hurricanes, according to coach James Sweeney.

“Last night we had unbelievable performances,” the coach noted. “Everyone really stepped up.”

Elaine Schwartz led the way in the first event as she broke a UM school record in the 400 IM.

“Elaine had a tremendous swim, qualifying for NCAA’s and also breaking a school record, it was so exciting to watch,” Sweeney said.

Freshman Adrien Ferg swam a great race as she won the consolation heat in the 100 butterfly with a personal best time.

The 800 free relay of Megan Kinsella, Schwartz, Adrien Ferguson and Van Rooijen finished second with an NCAA B qualifying time.
