Hurricanes Continue Strong Performances At BIG EAST Championships

EAST MEADOW, NY (www.hurricanesports.com) – – Hurricane swimmer and Dutch Olympian Manon Van Rooijen took second this morning in the preliminary for the 200-yard freestyle event at the BIG EAST Swimming and Diving Championships.

Van Rooijen, who earned a bronze medal in the 2000 Olympics in Sydney, currently hold the BIG EAST Championship record in the event with a time of 1:46.48. Friday morning, Van Rooijen was clocked at 1:49.26 behind Villanova’s Becky Koch (1:48.64). The finals are tonight beginning at 6 p.m.

UM’s Elaine Schwartz continued to have an impressive performance in the championships. She placed third in the 400-yard IM in the preliminaries (4:21.74).
