Hurricanes Take Top Spots In Meet

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – – Despite several surprise first-place finishes, the University of Miami swimming and diving team fell 135-99 Monday at the Norman Whitten Pool on the Coral Gables Campus.
The Hurricanes placed first in five of the nine individual swimming events and Melanie Rinaldi dominated both the 1-meter and the 3-meter dives.
In the 200-yard freestyle event, Hurricane sprinter Manon Van Rooijen placed first with a time of 1:51.20. Van Rooijen also placed first in the 100 free (51.32).
UM sprinter Christine Williams placed first in the 50 free (24.10); Elaine Schwartz took the top spot in the 200 IM; and Megan Clabby placed first in the 200 breast (2:27.17). Colleen Adkins (2:27.30) and Christina Swanson (2:33.17) placed second and third respectively in the 200 breast.
UM’s next home meet is Feb. 8 when the Hurricanes host Indian River.
