TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – – Women Helping Women (WHW), which was recently established to enhance the knowledge and support of the University of Miami women’s athletic programs, will hold its first event ever on August 26, 2002.

Jan Wannstedt, wife of Miami Dolphins head coach Dave Wannstedt, is scheduled to discuss Football 101, a tutorial intended to give female fans the opportunity to learn and better understand the game of football.

WHW Committee chairwomen Dianna Coker (wife of Head Football Coach, Larry Coker), Terry Buoniconti, Bonnie Chase, and Denise Morris (wife of Head Baseball Coach Jim Morris), created the organization in support of women athletics at UM. Through fundraising and publicity, WHW plans to generate fan support and increase financial support for these programs through two fundraising events a year, with Football 101 being the inaugural event. The founders hope to form an Honorary Board of successful female leaders that are willing to dedicate their time towards developing and maintaining women’s athletics at the University of Miami.

Community members are encouraged to get involved and help make this new organization a success. You can help support WHW by making contributions, mentoring a female student-athlete, or by attending UM women athletic contests.
