CBS To Televise UM Football At Florida

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – CBS Sports has announced it will kick off its 2002 College Football schedule with a classic intrastate rivalry as defending National Champion Miami takes on Florida on Saturday, September 7 with kickoff slated for 5:00 p.m. Eastern Time at Ben Hill Griffin Stadium at Florida Field in Gainesville.

The game between the Hurricanes and Gators will mark the first regular season meeting between the two national powers since 1987. The teams met in the postseason in the 2001 Nokia Sugar Bowl with the Hurricanes taking a 37-20 victory over the Gators.

Miami and Florida have met 50 times in football competition and the series is tied at 25 wins apiece. Miami leads, 11-8, in games at Gainesville. The Hurricanes have won the last three meetings with the Gators, winning 23-15 in 1986 at Gainesville, 31-4 in 1987 at Miami and 37-20 on Jan. 2, 2001, in the Sugar Bowl in New Orleans.

The Hurricanes will open the 2002 football season on Saturday, August 31, against Florida A&M at the Orange Bowl. Tickets are on sale now. Fans may call 1-800-GO-CANES to speak with a ticket representative.
