Hurricanes Announce Two-Game Football Series With Ohio State

March 28, 2002

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami Director of Athletics Paul Dee announced that the Hurricanes football team will play a home-and-home series with Ohio State University in 2010 and 2011. The Hurricanes and Buckeyes are scheduled to face off in Columbus, Ohio, on September 4, 2010, and in Miami on September 17, 2011.

“The University of Miami is excited and proud to enter into an agreement for a two-game, home-and-home series with Ohio State,” Dee said. “This is a continuation of our policy of playing the nation’s top programs, both at home and on the road. It’s also a tremendous opportunity for us to continue to our relationship with the Big Ten Conference.”

Miami’s planned visit to Ohio Stadium will put the Hurricanes in one of college football’s largest stadiums as the famed “horseshoe” seats 101,568 fans. The Hurricanes and Ohio State have met twice in football, with each team owning a victory. The schools first met in 1977 at Columbus with the Buckeyes taking a 10-0 victory. The teams met again in 1999 in the Kickoff Classic at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J., with the Hurricanes winning, 23-12. If OSU’s current schedules remain as they are, the 2011 game will be the first regular season game the Buckeyes have ever played in the state of Florida. The Buckeyes’ last trip to Miami was for the 1977 Orange Bowl, in which OSU defeated Colorado, 27-10.

Miami has played Big Ten opponents 40 times in football with the Hurricanes owning a 26-14 advantage in those contests. The Hurricanes have met Penn State more than any other Big Ten opponent, playing the Nittany Lions 13 times and compiling a 6-7 record in those contests. Against BIG EAST opponents, Ohio State is 29-9-1 all-time.
