Hurricanes' Frank Gore To Undergo Surgery On Injured Knee

March 20, 2002

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami running back Frank Gore will undergo surgery on his injured right knee this week, UM head football coach Larry Coker announced Wednesday night.

UM Team Physician Dr. John Uribe will perform the surgery later this week, Coker said. Gore, who rushed for 562 yards and five touchdowns as a true freshman in 2001, injured the anterior cruciate ligament in the knee during practice Tuesday afternoon.

“While it’s a serious injury, we’re hopeful that Frank can return for this season but I wouldn’t want to guess on when he might return until after the surgery,” Coker said. “Frank’s a great kid and he’s really been a hard worker for us. I know he’ll respond to this setback with renewed determination.”
