Hurricanes Place At Indiana Invitational

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (hurricanesports.com) – – The University of Miami men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams returned yesterday with several strong performances logged in the Indiana Invitational at Indiana University.
Most notable were the Hurricanes’ divers. Katie Beth Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) placed first in the 1-meter diving event with a score of 308.15.
Miguel Velazquez (Mexico City, Mexico) also placed first in the 3-meter event, scoring a commanding 583.40 in the finals.
From the Hurricanes’ women’s team competitors, the 400-meter relay team of Katalin Ferenzci (Pa’ Pa’, Hungary), Christina Swanson (Bainbridge Island, Va.), Adrien Ferguson (Oklahoma City, Okla.), and Christine Williams (Trenton, New Jersey) finished fourth overall with a final time of 1:46.88. Williams finished fifth in the championship finals of the 200-yard freestyle, clocking in at 1:53.07 and earning 14 points for the Hurricanes. She also finished fourth in the 100 breaststroke with a final time of 1:05.44.
Miami’s Ferenczi finished third in the championship finals of the 100 backstroke, scoring a time of 57.26 and Tammy Watts took fifth in the same event with a time of 58.11.
Manon Van Rooijen (Westdorpe, Holland) took fifth in the 200 IM with a time of 2:06.06.
In the 400 medley relay, the Hurricanes’ squad of Ferenczi, Ferguson, Swanson, and Van Rooijen took fourth with a 3:50.70 clocking.
