Fall Freshman Regatta
Nov. 7, 2002
The University of Miami novice rowing team will see action for the first time this season at the Fall Freshman Regatta Saturday, Nov. 9 in Melbourne, Fla.
The race, hosted by Florida Institute of Technology, is part of the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association. The event will be held in Canal 54 in Melbourne.
Assistant Coach Liz Payer returns this season to coach the novice rowers for a second year and is looking forward to kicking off the season. “Working with novices is an extremely rewarding experience due to the huge learning curve. It is great to witness their self-confidence grow as they go through the year.”
Payer hopes to build on the success of last year’s team that placed second at the FIRA state championships and made the grand final at the SIRA and BIG EAST Championships.
“We depend a lot on the novice program as a feeder system for the varsity squad,” said Head Coach Debra Morgan.
