Soccer Falls To Rutgers In The BIG EAST Quarterfinals

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The Miami soccer team fell in the first round of the BIG EAST tournament to visiting Rutgers, 4-3, Saturday night at Cobb Stadium.
The Hurricanes end the season with an overall record of 9-9-1, while the Scarlet Knights improve to 10-7-2.
Rutgers will play the winner of the West Virginia/St. John’s quarterfinal match in the semifinals Friday, Nov. 8 in Storrs, Conn.
Rutgers, the number three seed from the Mid-Atlantic Division, scored two goals in the first seven minutes of play.
Kelly Evans scored Rutgers first goal on a pass from Carli Lloyd. The duo combined again two minutes later assisting Adrienne Dugandzic to put the Scarlet Knights up 2-0 on Miami, the number two seed from the Northeast Division.
At the 20-minute mark RU scored again as Danae Risoli connected on a cross from Shannon Evans.
The Scarlet Knights owned a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Miami made some adjustments at halftime and scored back-to-back goals to open the second half.
Jenna Johnson (Countryside, Ill.) sent a pass to Andrea Radice (Hialeah, Fla.) who sent a perfect cross to Anik Huffman (Winter Park, Fla.) to put Miami back in the match at the 59-minute mark.
Radice scored less than two minutes later on a pass from Vonda Matthews (Broken Arrow, Okla.).
Just as the momentum had switched to Miami’s side the Scarlet Knights scored their fourth goal on the night as Risoli scored on a cross from Tara Froehlich in the 84th minute.
With less than two minutes remaining in the match Lindsey Yach (Carrollton, Texas) scored on a pass from Radice.
The Hurricanes outshot Rutgers 23 to 13. RU goalkeeper Christine Caldwell tallied a season-high nine saves in the win.
