Soccer Hosts Rutgers In The BIG EAST Quarterfinals

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The Miami soccer team will host Rutgers in the first round of the BIG EAST Tournament Saturday at 7 p.m. at Cobb Stadium on the UM campus.
The Hurricanes wrapped up the regular season with a 9-8-1 overall record and a 4-1-1 record in the BIG EAST Northeast Division.
Miami is the No. 2 seed in the Northeast. Rutgers the third seed in the Mid-Atlantic Division finished with a 9-6-2 overall record and 3-2-1 in the Mid-Atlantic.
The two teams faced each other in Piscataway, NJ on Oct. 18. Rutgers beat Miami 6-5 in double overtime. The all-time series is tied at one-all.
Sophomore Britney Butcher (Bothell, Wash.) leads Miami with 34 points. Senior Rachel Elsby (Boca Raton, Fla.) has a 2.01 goals-against average, .670 save percentage and two shutouts in goal this season.
Carli Lloyd leads the Scarlet Knights with 25 points. Senior Christine Caldwell has a 1.22 goals-against average, .747 save percentage and six shutouts in goal this season.
This marks the fourth consecutive year that Miami has qualified for the BIG EAST Tournament since joining the BIG EAST in 1999.
Quarterfinal winners will advance to the semifinals, held at Morrone Stadium in Storrs, Conn. The championship game will take place on Sunday, November 10.
The winner of the Miami-Rutgers match will play the winner of the West Virginia-St. John’s quarterfinal match Friday, Nov. 8, at 5 p.m. in Storrs, Conn.
