Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – Sophomore forward Britney Butcher scored two goals leading the University of Miami soccer team to a 3-1 victory over Seton Hall Friday night at Cobb Stadium.

The Hurricanes’ second consecutive BIG EAST victory improves them to 9-4-1 overall and 4-1-1 in conference play, while the Pirates drop to 5-8-1 overall and 1-3-1 in the BIG EAST.

Butcher opened the scoring, 1-0, in the 20th minute, blasting a free-ball past goalkeeper Buffy Wojciehowski for her 11th goal of the season. One minute later Butcher knocked in a rebound off a Vonda Matthews shot for her second goal of the game and team-best 12th of the season.

Seton Hall cut the lead, 2-1, in the second half of play when Emily Fischer connected on a pass from Whitney Dula in the 73rd minute of play.

However, junior midfielder Mary Luke returned the favor seven minutes later, scoring her first goal of the season on a Lindsey Yach assist and giving the Hurricanes a 3-1 advantage.

Hurricane goalkeeper Rachel Elsby stood tall in front of the net, tallying five saves on eight shots.

Additionally, the Miami defense allowed Seton Hall only four shots each half. The Hurricanes amassed 23 total shots, 11 shots on goal.
