Soccer Rolls Past South Florida, 5-1

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Sophomore Britney Butcher (Bothell, Wash.) recorded her second hat trick of the weekend to lead the University of Miami women’s soccer team to a, 5-1, victory over visiting South Florida Sunday afternoon.
Butcher scored the first two goals of the match for Miami at 7:40 and 8:29 on assists from Gitana Gotay (Sandy, Utah) and Anik Huffman (Winter Park, Fla.).
The Hurricanes (2-0-0) led 2-0 at halftime.
Newcomer Lindsey Yach (Carrollton, Texas) scored back-to-back goals to open the second half. Allison McWhinney (Danvers, Mass.) assisted the first goal by Yach at 47:29, while Huffman and Jenna Johnson (Countryside, Ill.) assisted the second goal at 64:22.
Butcher rounded out the scoring for UM as she scored her sixth goal of the season at 65:38 on an assist from Huffman.
Tia Opliger scored an unassisted goal for the Bulls at 70:01.
Miami goalkeeper Rachel Elsby (Boca Raton, Fla.) played 90 minutes in goal.
The Hurricanes took 17 shots compared to five for the Bulls. Miami recorded five corner kicks, while USF took three.
Miami is back in action Friday travelling to face LSU in the FSU Invitational.
