July 19, 2002

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami football players Ken Dorsey, Jerome McDougle, Brett Romberg, Matt Walters and Jonathan Vilma will join head coach Larry Coker at the 2002 Big East Football Media Day Wednesday, July 24, at the Meadowlands.

The five UM gridders will represent the defending national champion Hurricanes at the event that marks the official beginning of the league’s 2002 season. Players representing Miami’s seven Big East football opponents will be joining the Hurricanes at the media event.

Entering its 12th season of competition in the BIG EAST, Miami is looking to build on a successful tradition in conference play this season. Since starting Big East play in 1991, UM has won or shared six league football titles (more than any other Big East institution) while winning more games (59) in league play and compiling the league’s best winning percentage (.855, 59-10).
