Williams Wins 100-Meters At USA Junior Nationals

Sacramento, CA (hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami freshman Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) finished first in the 100-meter dash at the USA Track and Field Junior National Championships being held in Sacramento, CA.

Williams posted a time of 11.42 in becoming the first Hurricane to win a Junior National Championship. With the victory, Williams qualifies for the United States Junior National team that will compete at the World Junior Championships, July 16-21, in Kingston, Jamaica.

This season Williams earned All-America honors in the 60-meters and 100-meters while winning BIG EAST championships in the 60-meters and 200-meters during the indoor season, and the 100-meters during the outdoor season. Williams was honored as the Most Outstanding Track Athlete at the BIG EAST Indoor Championships.

In the 100-meter hurdles, fellow UM freshman Amber Williams (Succasunna, NJ) finished ninth with a time of 13.96. On Friday Williams broke her own UM record in the heptathlon with a score of 5007 points.
