Canes On Patrol

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – Several members of the defending national champion Miami Hurricanes football team will be teaming up this summer with the Broward County Sheriff’s Office for the annual “Canes on Patrol” program.

The 2002 summer marks the sixth straight year the University of Miami football team and the BSO office teamed up to help promote law enforcement and good citizenship.

This Saturday, June 22, a group of offensive linemen, including Sherko Haji-Rasouli, Vernon Carey, Ed Wilkins and Carlos Joseph, will join a “ride along” with the Sheriff’s Office Career Criminal squad and help assist in the day-to-day duties. The group of players will first meet at the Deerfield Beach Substation at 4 p.m. for the nightly briefing then do the ride-along from 7 p.m. to midnight.

The ride-along program with the Broward Sheriff’s Office will continue through Saturday, July 13. The Deerfield Beach Substation (954-480-4300) is located at 300 Northeast Second Street.

The players will patrol the International Boat Races on July 14th at Deerfield Beach Pier.
