All-American Todd Widom Falls In The Sweet 16

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Miami’s All-American Todd Widom (Coral Springs, Fla.) fell to Southern California’s Nick Rainey in the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tennis Championships Friday afternoon in College Station, Texas.
Widom fell in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 to Rainey. He wraps up his freshman season with an overall record of 28-7.
He is the first All-American since Mike Russell was awarded the honor his freshman season in 1996-97.
Widom beat Penn State’s Jamie Gresh, 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2 in the first round before knocking off Duke’s No. 11 Phillip King in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3 in the second round.
He is the first player under head coach Jay Berger to advance to the Sweet 16.
He was named Most Outstanding Performer at the BIG EAST Tennis Championships this season.
