UM Women Dominate Gatorade Classic

Coral Gables, FL (hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami women’s track team won eight of 18 events, set two school-records and recorded eight NCAA provisional qualifying marks at the Miami Gatorade Track and Field Classic held at Cobb Stadium for Soccer, Track and Field in Coral Gables, FL.
Senior All-American Kareen Clarke (Lithonic, GA) recorded two wins for the Hurricanes finishing first in both the long jump and triple jump.
Clarke, competing in her final home meet at Cobb Stadium, posted an NCAA provisional qualifying mark of 6.33 meters (20-09.25) in long jump to win the competition by nearly seven inches. Teammate Sharianne Lawson (Palm Beach Lakes) was second with a jump of 6.16 meters (20-02.50).
She then crushed the field in triple jump finishing first by over two feet. Clarke, who has won seven of nine competitions this season, recorded a mark of 13.29 meters (43-07.25), which easily outdistanced Michelle Hickman of St. John’s who took second with a jump of 12.66 meters (41-06.50).
Freshman Lauryn Williams (Rochester, PA) was also impressive on the afternoon winning the 100-meters, finishing second in the 200-meters and running the second leg of the champion 4×100-meter relay.
Williams, who set school-records in the 55-meters and 60-meters during the indoor season, recorded a school and Cobb Stadium record of 11.44 in winning the 100-meters. Her time of 23.91 in the 200-meters was second only to All-American Wyllesheia Myrick (Miami Northwestern).
Myrick and Williams, along with Lawson and freshman Wiande Moore (Spring, TX) won the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 44.57. The Hurricanes’ winning time is the fifth fastest in the NCAA this season and provisionally qualifies them for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships.
The 4×400-meter relay of junior Terria Madison (Columbus, GA), junior Jamillah Wade (Philadelphia, PA), senior Jenise Winston (League City, TX) and freshman Amber Williams (Succasunna, NJ) were also victorious with an NCAA provisional mark of 3:38.11.
Wade also competed in the 400-meter hurdles finishing first with a time of 1:00.20.
Junior Saraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas) was the top collegiate finisher in the 400-meters posting an NCAA provisional time of 53.31, while All-American Patricia Pearson won the 800-meters with a time of 2:07.96.
In addition, freshman Lauren Koutralakos (Sykesville, MD) established a new UM record in the pole vault (3.25 meters/10-08.00), while Lawson provisionally qualified in the 100-meter hurdles (13.26).
