Van Rooijen Swims Lifetime Best in 50 Free

Austin, Texas (hurricanesports.com) – Miami’s Manon van Rooijen swam a lifetimebest 23.14 in the 50-yard freestyle at the Women’s NCAA Swimming & DivingChampionships in Austin, Texas on Thursday night. The sophomore from Westdorpe,Holland finished 24th in the event.
“Manon’s 50 is a great start for her,” said head swimming coach JamesSweeney. “That time was faster than what she went at the Big East Championshipsleading off the 200 free relay. She is going to have a very fast 200 free tomorrow.”
In women’s diving, senior Michelle Davison (Columbia, S.C.) took fourth placein the 1-meter with a score of 304.05 and junior Katie Beth Bryant (Chatham, Ill.)was fifth (300.05).
The UM women are in 15th place out of 32 teams after the first day of events inAustin. The competition concludes on March 23.
The 2002 Men’s NCAA Swimming & Diving Championships are scheduled for March28-30 at the Gabrielsen Natatorium on the campus of the University of Georgiain Athens.
