Salmons Receives BIG EAST Sportsmanship Award

New York – Miami senior John Salmons was presented with the 2001-02 BIGEAST Sportsmanship Award at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York.

The award was determined by a vote of the conference’s head basketball coachesprior to the 2002 ConAgra Foods BIG EAST Championship, which will be played atMadison Square Garden on March 6-9.

Salmons, a 6-7 senior guard from Philadelphia, Pa., was honored for exemplifyingsportsmanlike play during his four-year career with the Hurricanes.

This season, Salmons is an All-BIG EAST Second Team selection after averaging13.3 points, 6.1 assists and 5.9 rebounds.

The University of Miami enters the 2002 ConAgra Foods BIG EAST Championship asthe second seed out of the East Division and will receive a first-round bye. Miamiwill face the winner of the Georgetown/Providence game on Thursday afternoon at2 p.m. at Madison Square Garden.
