Miami Diving Owns the Board at BIG EAST Championships

Uniondale, N.Y. – One day after sweeping the top four spots in the men’s3-meter diving event, Miami reminded its BIG EAST competitors on Friday that itowned the board by taking the top four places again in the 1-meter event at theBIG EAST Championships in Uniondale, New York.
Senior Imre Lengyel (Budapest, Hungary) won his second competition with 381.30points in the 1-meter. Lengyel took first in the 3-meter competition (665.8) onThursday.
Freshman Miguel Velazquez (Mexico City) finished second with 333.10, senior StefanAhrens third with 331.90 and junior Kyle Prandi fourth with 307.95 points.
For the UM women, junior Katie Beth Bryant (Chatham, Ill.) won the women’s 3-meterwith 561.85 points.
Senior Michelle Davison (Columbia, S.C.) was third with 521.70. Davison won the1-meter event on Thursday (300.65) for Miami. Sophomore Melanie Rinaldi (MteNord,Canada) finished fifth with 495.65 points.
Miami has taken the top spot in all four of the men’s and women’s diving competitions.
Overall, Miami swimming and diving stands in seventh place for the men with 187points and third for the women with 357 — just 25.5 points behind Rutgers.
“In order to overcome them and stay ahead of Pittsburgh, it will take a tremendousteam effort tomorrow to catch Rutgers,” said head swimming coach James Sweeney.”But we are having one of the best conference meets since I have been hereso I am looking forward to the challenge for our team.”
The BIG EAST Championships conclude on Saturday, February 23rd.
