Laura West Named Academic All-Star

Laura West played a major role with the Hurricanes women’s soccer team during the upcoming 2001 campaign. The junior from Allen, TX, has been a mainstay in Head Coach Jim Blankenship’s line-up since her arrival in 1999.

West is majoring in Advertising Communications and was selected to the Provost’s Honor Roll last spring. Along with one of the school’s academic honors the soccer standout is a member of the Dean’s List, BIG EAST Academic All-Stars and Athletic Academic Services Book Busters Club.

West, whose twin sister Ashley is also a member of the women’s soccer team, wears No. 15. She was among four players during her freshman season in have started all 20 games as the Hurricanes qualified for the BIG EAST Championships in their first season of league competition. As a sophomore, West appeared in nearly every match with UM once again reaching the eight-team BIG EAST Tournament. She led the team in 2000 with six goals and a career-high 13 points.
