No. 37 Women's Tennis Wins Season Opener Over FAU, 5-2

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The No. 37-ranked Miami women’s tennis team opened the 2002 season with a 5-2 victory over visiting Florida Atlantic Friday night at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.

The Hurricanes (1-0) won the doubles point after winning at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles.

Senior Marcy Hora teamed up with freshman Staci Stevens to defeat Maria Aguirre-Gomez and Tania Rivera 8-1 at the No. 1 spot, while Sara Robbins and Sihem Bennacer beat StephanieBeaulieu and Jessica Burrow at No. 3 doubles.

Miami won four singles matches en route to the victory over FAU. Stevens beat Rivera 6-0, 6-4 at No. 2 singles.

Bennacer downed Gomez 6-2, 6-1 at the No. 3 spot, while newcomer Ewelina Skaza beat Beaulieu in three sets 1-6, 6-2, 6-2 at the No. 4 spot.

Robbins beat Burrow at No. 5 singles 6-3, 6-4.

The Hurricanes return to action Saturday at 2 p.m. facing Barry University.
