Men's Tennis Continues The Spring Fling

CORAL GABLES, Fla.-The University of Miami men’s tennis team won five singles matches and one doubles match in a strong showing against visiting Illinois Sunday afternoon at the Miami Spring Fling.
Freshman Todd Widom beat sophomore Michael Calkins at the No. 1 spot in a three-set match. Widom losing the first set 7-5, fought back taking the next two, 6-4, 6-1.
Senior Joel Berman made his first singles debut in over a year after sitting out last season with an injury. Berman defeated Conner Murnighan, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 6 singles.
Widom and Berman teamed up to give the Hurricanes a doubles victory. The pair beat Alex Hobson and Alex Meresan 8-5.
Other singles wins came from Andrew McDade, Maxime LePivert and Tarik El Bassiouni.
The Hurricanes are back in action Monday at 2 p.m. playing host to Clemson in the final day of the tournament.
