Now that the nation’s top two collegiate football teams have been named to play for the national championship at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, what are they going to do next? They’re going to DISNEYLAND®!

The University of Miami Hurricanes and the University of Nebraska Cornhuskers, slated to battle in the January 3 match-up at the Rose Bowl, will make their first official Southern California appearance on Thursday, December 27, in the new DISNEY’S CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE at the DISNEYLAND Resort. The two top-ranked squads and their coaches will experience a festive “Welcome to California” in a colorful 2:30 p.m. ceremony overlooking the park’s seaside-theme Paradise Bay.

In addition, the park will host a special “National Championship Salute” on Wednesday, January 2 featuring parade performances by the Canes and Huskers marching bands and a variety of special game-related features.

The teams’ December 27 visit is an official Rose Bowl event held in cooperation with the Tournament of Roses, and the players and coaches will be joined by the Tournament of Roses Queen Caroline Hsu and her court. Miami Head Coach Larry Coker and Nebraska Head Coach Frank Solich, along with several selected players, including Heisman Trophy-winning Nebraska quarterback Eric Crouch, will be featured participants in the afternoon ceremony. As part of the visit to DISNEY’S CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE, the teams will also enjoy many of the attractions found throughout the California-theme park.

“The DISNEYLAND Resort has had an association with the Tournament of Roses since 1959, and it has been an honor to host many Rose Bowl teams in the years since then,” said Cynthia Harriss, president of the DISNEYLAND Resort. “Previously, the teams visited the original DISNEYLAND. Since we recently opened DISNEY’S CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE, we’ve decided to start a new tradition and salute the players at our exciting new park.”

“It’s a pleasure to have our Rose Bowl teams come to the DISNEYLAND Resort as part of the official itinerary of pre-game activities,” said Ron Okum, president of the Tournament of Roses. “We know that Disney will host a tremendous welcome and we believe the players will have a great time as they prepare for the game, which is even more thrilling this year because the national championship is at stake.”

In addition to the football teams visiting DISNEY’S CALIFORNIA ADVENTURE on December 27, the park will host a fun-filled “National Championship Salute” for football fans on Wednesday, January 2. The event features afternoon performances by the Hurricanes and Cornhuskers marching bands, and each will parade through the park. Also offered will be temporary-tattoo locations so fans can show their favorite school’s colors, special football-theme photo locations and commemorative merchandise.

The national championship game will take place at the 88th edition of the Rose Bowl in Pasadena on Thursday, January 3. The Miami Hurricanes, ranked #1 in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) poll have a record of 11-0 overall this season and were 8-0 in Big East Conference play, the Nebraska Cornhuskers are ranked #2 in the BCS poll, are11-1 overall and went 7-1 in the Big 12 Conference.
