Najeh Davenport To Miss Rose Bowl With Injury

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – University of Miami junior running back Najeh Davenport suffered a fracture to the fifth metatarsal bone of his foot and will miss the Hurricanes’ upcoming clash with the Nebraska Cornhuskers in the 2002 Rose Bowl, head coach Larry Coker announced today.

“Najeh suffered an injury during practice on Thursday afternoon and x-rays taken last night revealed a broken bone in his foot that required surgery this morning,” Coker said.

Davenport rushed 23 times for 54 yards and three touchdowns this season and averaged 13.6 yards per reception, catching 14 passes for 190 yards and two touchdowns. One of the team’s most respected leaders, he earned the team’s Unsung Hero Award this season in recognition of his sacrifices and willingness to put team success ahead of individual goals.
