Swimming & Diving Hosts Denver

Coral Gables, Fla. – The Miami swimming & diving team hosted the Universityof Denver in a dual meet at the Norman Whitten Pool on the UM campus on Friday.The women won 140-64 while the men’s team lost 150-43.
Sophomore Manon van Rooijen (Westdorpe, Holland) took first in the 100-yard butterfly(57.66) and junior ElaineSchwartz took second (58.69). Van Rooijen also nabbed first in the 50-yardfreestyle (24.28) and junior Megan Kinsella (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) placedthird (25.36).
Schwartz took first in the 1000-yard freestyle (10:51.18) and freshman Mary Carriere(Ft. Myers, Fla.) was third with a time of 11:19.75).
In the 200-yard IM, freshman Kristy MacLennan (Toronto, Ontario, Canada) finishedfirst (2:11.58) and freshman Colleen Adkins (Satellite Beach, Fla.) took third(2:14.28).
Adkins also placed first in the women’s 100-yard breast (1:08.64) while MeghanClabby (Coral Springs, Fla.) finished second with a time of 1:09.20.
In the women’s 500-yard freestyle, Kinsella placed first (5:11.32) and sophomoreGemaCrespo (Miami, Fla.) placed third (5:31.48). Senior Wes Stoddard (Huntsville,Ala.) took first in the men’s 500-yard freestyle with a time of 4:43.53.
In the relay events, the Miami team of Tammy Watts (Centennial, Colo.), CourtneyCaples (Tuscaloosa, Ala.), Kristy MacLennan and Christine Williams (Trenton, N.J.)took first in the women’s 200-yard medley (1:50.27) and the 200-yard freestyleteam of Manon van Rooijen, Megan Kinsella, ElaineSchwartz and Heather Solomon (East Setauket, N.Y.) won their event with atime of 1:39.79.
Miami returns to action on Sunday hosting the Wildcats of Northwestern at theNorman Whitten Pool.
