MIAMI (AP)James Jones scored 18 and tied a school record with eightblocked shots Monday as the Miami Hurricanes beat Florida International 77-59.

Off to its best start since going 9-0 in 1997, Miami (7-0) has now won 26straight games against Florida schools.

Elton Tyler was 6-for-8 from the field and had a season-high 18 points.Marcus Barnes scored 11 points and Rafael Berumen had 10 points.

Miami, which led 33-30 at halftime, broke the game open with a 14-4 run tostart the second half. Shooting 52 percent in the second half, the Hurricanestwice led by as much as 20 points.

Taurance Johnson had 20 points for Florida International (4-3), and RodrigoViegas added 18 points.

Miami’s defense, led by Jones’ eight blocked shots, limited FloridaInternational to just 37 percent shooting in the second half.

Renewing the rivalry after nine seasons, Miami improves to 8-1 againstFlorida International. The Golden Panthers’ only win against the Hurricanes was72-64 in 1992.

The Hurricanes took control in the first half and led 26-12 on Tyler’slayup. But Florida International went on a 13-point run to close within a onepoint. Tyler had 12 points in the first half and Jones scored 10.
