Dorsey Is Finalist For Walter Camp Player of the Year Award

Nov. 29, 2001

NEW HAVEN, CT – University of Miami junior quarterback Ken Dorsey has been named one of four finalists for the 2001 “Player of the Year” award presented annually by the Walter Camp Football Foundation. One of the oldest individual awards in college football, the accolade honors the nation’s top all-around college football player.

Joining Dorsey as finalists for the 2001 Walter Camp “Player of the Year” award are quarterback Eric Crouch of Nebraska, quarterback Rex Grossman of Florida and safety Roy Williams of Oklahoma. The Walter Camp “Player of the Year” award is scheduled to be presented live during ESPN’s SportsCenter show between 6:30 and 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, December 6.

Dorsey has led the Hurricanes to the national polls while leading one of the nation’s most balanced and explosive offenses. In Miami’s first eight games of the season, the Hurricanes have averaged 44.9 points per game (third in NCAA Division I) while throwing for 251.7 yards per contest and rushing for 210.2 yards per game. Miami’s potent attack has devastated opponents on a weekly basis and Dorsey has been at the center of it all. The most consistent performer among all of the hopefuls for national honors, Dorsey has thrown for 2,417 yards and 22 touchdowns in the 2001 season – and he’s done so while playing in the fourth period of just three of those contests.

The Walter Camp “Player of the Year” award recipient and members of the 2001 Walter Camp All-America team will be honored at the organization’s national awards banquet on February 9, 2002, at the Yale University Commons in New Haven.
