UM Women Defeat FAU 161-137

Gainesville, Fla. – (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miamiswimming and diving team hosted Florida Atlantic Saturday afternoon at the NormanWhitten Student Union Pool in Coral Gables.

The women’s team defeated FAU 161-137 while the men lost 106-149.

The Miami women’s 400-yard medley relay team of Megan Kinsella, Courtney Caples,Kristy MacLennan and Christine Williams took first with a time of 3:56.51.

UM captured the two top spots in the women’s 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore Manonvan Rooijen finished first with a time of 1:55.00 while junior Megan Kinsellawas second at 1:55.74.

Freshman Kristy MacLennan won the 200-yard butterfly (2:06.60) with junior ElaineSchwartz taking second place with a time of 2:07.70. MacLennan also finished secondin the 200-yard backstroke (2:10.94) while freshman Tammy Watts finished first(2:10.68).

In the 100-yard freestyle, junior Christine Williams finished first with a timeof 52:31 and van Rooijen was second (52:96).

For the men swimmers, junior Ryan Rykaczewski won the 100-yard butterfly (56.38)and senior John Stevens won the 200-yard IM with a time of 2:06.06.

The men’s 400-yard freestyle relay team of Kevin Kerrick, Bjorn Boquist, JohnStevens and Wes Stoddard finished in first place at 3:23.03.

Highlighting the diving events, Miami senior Michelle Davidson won the women’s1-meter with 198.65 points and sophomore Melanie Rinaldi won second with 197.35.

The Miami men’s diving team took the top three spots in the 1-meter event. SeniorStefan Ahrens had 224.95 points, Miguel Velazquez was second at 217.00 and ImreLengyel had 212.40.

The trio followed the sweep with another in the 3-meter event. Again, Ahrens wasfirst (209.50), Velazquez second (208.70) and Lengyel third with 201.50.

The Miami women’s team next travels to Dallas to compete in the SMU Classic onNovember 2nd and 3rd.
