Soccer Falls To No. 21 West Virginia, 5-1

MORGANTOWN, WV-The Miami soccer team fell on the road Sunday afternoon to No. 21-ranked West Virginia, 5-1.
The Hurricanes fall to 8-6-1 on the season while the Mountaineers improve to 11-3-1 overall.
The Mountaineers set the tone at the game’s outset, scoring with just 2:31 gone in the game when Lisa Stoia’s shot hit the back of the net. Chrissie Abbott assisted on the goal.
Ten minutes later, the Mountaineers got their second score of the game off a corner kick.
Rachel Kruze was credited with the goal and Katie Barnes tallied the assist.
Christen Seaman made it 3-0 when she found the net at the 16:26 mark.
Miami got on the board at the start of the second half when Britney Butcher (Bothell, Wash.) scored from Alexis MacKenzie (Plantation, Fla.).
The Mountaineers expanded their lead when Stoia tallied her second goal of the game and fourth of the season at the 61:27 mark. Abbott assisted on the goal.
West Virginia’s final score came at the 83:55 mark when Barnes scored her third goal in the last two games and 10th of the season. Stoia produced the assist and finished the game with five points.
The Mountaineers out-shot the Hurricanes, 25-6.
