Miami Begins Game Week Practice For FSU Clash
Oct. 9, 2001
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – – The top-ranked Miami Hurricanes (4-0 overall, 2-0 in the BIG EAST) officially began preparations for their annual battle with the Florida State Seminoles (3-1) as they practiced for two hours in full pads on Tuesday afternoon at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus.
Miami and FSU meet for the 45th time in football this Saturday in a game that will be nationally televised by ABC Sports beginning at 12 p.m. Eastern Time. ESPN’s Game Day program also will take place in Tallahassee Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. just outside of Doak Campbell Stadium. Hurricanes fans attending the game are encouraged to attend the Game Day program to show their support for the team.
The Hurricanes’ practice was highlighted by the return to action of two key defensive players – end Cornelius Green and weakside linebacker D.J. Williams. Green, who missed the Troy State game with a nagging toe injury, could play Saturday against the Seminoles. Williams, who suffered a high ankle sprain on Sept. 29 against Pittsburgh, practiced for the first time since that game and worked with the starting unit most of the day.
“You can tell it’s Florida State week because the intensity is at a different level and we’ve had excellent concentration,” said Hurricanes head coach Larry Coker. “It was good to see some of our injured players back at work. Overall, we’re in good shape health-wise and we had a very good practice today.”
