CORAL GABLES, Fla.-Junior midfielder Laura West (Allen, Texas) registered the second hat trick of her career leading No. 17 Miami to a, 4-1, win over St. John’s in BIG EAST Conference Northeast Division action Sunday afternoon at Cobb Stadium.

The Hurricanes improve to 7-2-0 overall and 2-1-0 in the conference. The Red Storm fall to 2-6-0 overall and 1-2-0 in conference.

West scored her first goal at 29:37 on an assist from freshman Andrea Radice (Hialeah, Fla.).

Miami was called for a hand-ball foul with 27 seconds remaining in the first-half as a result SJU’s Erin Zambelli scored on a penalty kick to tie the match one-all.

West scored the game-winning goal six minutes into the second half on a double assist from Allison McWhinney (Danvers, Mass.) and Alexis MacKenzie (Plantation, Fla.).

Less than 20 minutes later West scored her team-leading seventh goal of the season on an assist from Britney Butcher (Bothell, Wash.).

The Hurricanes continued to dominate as Vonda Matthews (Broken Arrow, Okla.) scored the fourth goal on the day at 80:27.

Miami outshot the Red Storm 26 to six. UM took seven corner kicks compared to one for SJU.

The Hurricanes are back on the road travelling to face Boston College Friday night.
