Women's Soccer Downs UCF 4-1

Orlando, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – The University of Miami soccer team continues on the winning path with a 4-1 win over Central Florida Friday night at the UCF Soccer Field. The Hurricanes improve to 4-0 on the season, their best start ever in the history of the program. The Golden Knights pick up their first loss of the season, falling to 2-1-0. “I was extremely impressed with our effort tonight,” said head coach Jim Blankenship. “We gave a complete performance, I thought we played very well.”Junior Laura West (Allen, Texas) scored the first goal of the match at 19:30 on a pass from senior Alexis MacKenzie (Plantation, Fla.). The Hurricanes took a 2-0 lead as Mary Luke (Ft. Pierce) scored on a pass from Allison Ford (Atlanta, Ga.) at 41:38. The Golden Knights scored their only goal of the night at 42:12 on the only shot taken in the first half. Amanda King scored the unassisted goal for UCF. Miami came out strong the second half scoring two more goals and holding UCF to three shots. Vonda Matthews (Broken Arrow, Okla.) scored UM’s third goal on a penalty kick at 65:16. Newcomers Britney Butcher (Bothell, Wash.) and Anik Huffman (Winter Park, Fla.) combined to score the fourth goal of the night for the Hurricanes. Butcher scored at 67:41 on the assist from Huffman. Miami outshot UCF 21 to four. Goalkeeper Rachel Elsby (Boca Raton, Fla.) improves to 4-0-0 on the season, making two saves in the winning effort. The Hurricanes return to action Sunday at 2 p.m. facing the No. 20 Florida Gators at Percy Beard Stadium in Gainesville, Fla.
