Soccer Set To Face George Mason

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.-The University of Miami soccer team wraps up the Seminole Soccer Tournament in Tallahassee, Fla. Sunday at Noon taking on George Mason.
Miami (1-0) opened the 2001 season with a 5-1 win over Loyola College (0-1) Friday night at the Seminole Soccer Complex in the first round of the tournament.
George Mason (0-1) fell 3-2 to the host team, 12th ranked Florida State (1-0).
Sophomore Vonda Matthews (Broken Arrow, Okla.) scored the first goal in the win over Loyola at 28:03 on a pass from senior Deidre Bass (Coral Springs, Fla.).
The Greyhounds scored a goal four minutes into the second half but would not score again as the Hurricanes dominated the remainder of the match, scoring four consecutive goals.
Bass headed the game-winning goal on a long pass from junior Lisa Gomez (Boca Raton, Fla.) at 57:27. Laura West (Allen, Texas) scored back-to-back goals at 61:12 and 73:26. Matthews and Alexis MacKenzie (Plantation, Fla.) assisted the goals by West.
Newcomer Andrea Radice (Hialeah, Fla.) scored her first goal of her collegiate career at 89:38 on a pass from Mary Luke (Ft. Pierce, Fla.).
Junior Rachel Elsby (Boca Raton, Fla.) earns her first win in over a year, after sitting out last season due to injury. Elsby made four saves in 90 minutes of action.
The Patriots return nine starters from last years 12-9 club. GMU returns its threetop scorers from a team that was ranked 23rd in the nation last season. This will be the first meeting between Miami and George Mason.
