Aug. 21, 2001
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The Miami Hurricanes practiced for approximately 90 minutes in shorts and pads Tuesday morning at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus. The workout’s focus centered on fundamentals as the team was broken up in position groups for much of the practice before assembling for some scrimmaging at the end of the drills.
“This morning’s practice was excellent,” UM head coach Larry Coker said. “We got a lot done. We really concentrated on fundamentals and starting to game plan for the opener.”
The Hurricanes conclude today’s work this evening with a 7 p.m. scrimmage at the Orange Bowl that is closed to media and the general public. With tonight’s scrimmage, Miami officially ends its preseason two-a-days. The Hurricanes will take Wednesday off as fall semester classes begin at UM, but will return to the practice field on Thursday for a 3:30 p.m. workout at Greentree. The team also has a 3:30 p.m. practice slated for Friday. Miami does not have practices slated for the weekend and will resume regular practices on Tuesday, Aug. 28, at 3:30 p.m. at Greentree.
Miami begins the 2001 season on Saturday, September 1, at Penn State in a nationally televised contest (ABC Sports). Kickoff is set for 8 p.m.
