Women's Soccer Takes On Lynn University In Exhibition

CORAL GABLES, FL–The University of Miami women’s soccer team will take on Lynn University in an exhibition match scheduled for Monday, August 20 at 7 p.m. at Cobb Stadium.
With practice getting underway on Monday, August 13, the Hurricanes have only been together as a team for a week. However, they are looking forward to taking the field for the first time against actual competition.
UM returns all 11 starters from last season’s 9-10-1 club. Top returnees for the Hurricanes are sophomore Vonda Matthews and junior Lisa Gomez.
Matthews was named to the All-BIG EAST preseason team. She finished her freshman season with 10 points, including four goals and two assists. She started all 20 games last season.
Gomez was named MVP of the 2000 Miami soccer team after starting all 20 games and leading the team with 10 assists on the season.
Head coach Jim Blankenship begins his fourth season at the helm of the soccer program. He owns a 32-25-2 record in his three seasons at Miami.
