Whittaker Headed To Europe

University of Miami sprinter Saraque Whittaker (Ft. Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas) will compete as a member of the United States Junior National team when it faces Great Britain on August 18 and later travels to Scotland for the Edinburgh International Games on August 25.

“I am really looking forward to competing for my country,” said Whittaker who will is making her first trip over the Atlantic. “This should be a great experience and I am very excited to have the opportunity to compete against some of the best athletes in the world.”

Whittaker, who ranks 20th in the United States in the 400-meters (52.77), qualified for the team with a second-place finish in the 400-meters at the USA Track and Field Junior National Championships in Richmond, VA.

Whittaker, the UM record holder in the 400-meters, will compete in the 400-meters as well as the 4×400-meter relay.

The team will be coached by UM head women’s track and field coach Amy Deem.
