CORAL GABLES, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) – The University of Miami’s 2001 newcomers conducted a 90-minute practice in shorts and shells Tuesday morning in cloudy conditions at the Greentree Practice Field, officially starting preseason workouts for the Hurricanes.
“Today was Football 101,” Coker said. “This is one of those workouts that is the most basic. We literally just wanted to get everyone lined up correctly and indoctrinate them into our way of doing things on the practice field. Things went about as I expected. We had great enthusiasm. I couldn’t tell who was more excited to be out there – the players or the coaches.”
All 23 of the student-athletes (19 scholarship recipients and four walk-ons) who reported for camp on Sunday morning took part in the workout. The Hurricanes are slated for another practice this afternoon at 3:30 p.m. at the Greentree Practice Fields on the UM campus. The newcomers have one workout on Wednesday, starting at 9:20 a.m., before taking Thursday off for Photo/Media Day. The full varsity begins two-a-day practices Friday, Aug. 10, with workouts slated for 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. All workouts this week are open to the public.
