Whigham Leads BIG EAST All-Stars To Victory

BONN, GERMANY – University of Miami freshman Lonnie Whighamrecorded 12 points and four rebounds to lead the 2001 BIG EAST Women’sBasketball All-Stars to an 84-64 victory on Tuesday over Bonn BBC. The gamewas the first of the All-Stars’ six-game tour of Germany.

The all-stars, under the direction of Syracuse head coach Marianna Freeman, were held scoreless until the five-minute mark of the first quarter, but outscored the opponent 12-2 over the next three minutes. The BIG EAST team took a 49-35 halftime lead and began the second half with a 10-0run.

Villanova’s Trish Juhline finished the game with a team-high 15 points, including 13 in the first half and three three-pointers in the contest.

The BIG EAST All-Stars will face Bonn BBC again on Wednesday night.
