Rowing Travels To Southern Region Championship

Coral Gables, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – The University of Miami women’s rowing team heads into this weekend’s Southern Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta on Melton Lake in Oak Ridge, TN as the state of Florida’s top-seeded boat in the varsity races.

The UM women are fresh off a dominating performance at the Florida Intercollegiate Rowing Association Regatta last weekend in Tampa where they swept Gold Medals in every varsity race entered. Among the first-place finishes were the varsity eight, JV eight, varsity four, JV four and varsity pair.

Prior to the FIRA, the varsity eight had claimed victories this season over UCF, Connecticut, Navy and North Carolina.

The women’s varsity eight for the Southern Intercollegiate Championship Regatta consists of coxswain Jenny Lee, Jenny Krawec, Monika Manios, Jacqui Julien, Dorien Ten Have, Amanda Turner, Bridget Gallagher, Yianna Reizakis and Marijka VanderPol. UM’s second varsity eight consists of coxswain Meg Venezia, Bernadette Lack, Jordanna Heywood, Ananda Chou, Caroline Stewart, Stephanie Tilley, Trisha Blackwell, Maggie Knuth and Dorothy Clay.

The varsity four consists of coxswain Cina Quezada, Krawec, Julien, Ten Have and Turner. The second varsity four features Coxswain Jenny Lee, Manios, Gallagher, Reizakis and VanderPol.

Rowing in the junior varsity fours are Venezia (coxswain), Lack, Heywood, Knuth and Clay, Tiffany Mecca (coxswain), Stewart, Chou, Blackwell and Tilley.

Lindsey Tarabula and Cathy Dunnet will row the varsity pair.

The University of Miami women’s crew will return to action next weekend, Sunday, April 29 at the inaugural BIG EAST Championship on Lake Quinsigamond in Worcester, MA.
