No. 19 Men's Tennis Upsets No. 10 Notre Dame, 4-3

CORAL GABLES, Fla.– Tomas Smid clinched the 4-3 win for the No. 19-ranked Miami men’s tennis team over No. 10 Notre Dame Sunday afternoon at the Neil Schiff Tennis Center.
The Hurricanes have won six in a row and improve to 15-2 on the season. The Fighting Irish fall to 13-4 overall.
Miami won the doubles point with wins at No. 2 and No. 3. Jose Lieberman and Michael Lang downed Casey Smith and Luis Haddock 8-6 on court No. 2, while Johan Lindqvist and Andrew Golub defeated Brian Farrell and Matt Daly 8-5 at No. 3 doubles.
UM was up 2-0 as Lieberman handled Farrell 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles.
The match was soon tied 2-all as Lindqvist and Golub fell at No. 3 and No. 6 singles respectively.
No. 81 Lang was down 5-3 in the third set at No. 1 singles, but fought back and forced a tiebreaker with No. 91 Casey Smith. Lang won the tiebreaker 7-0 to put Miami up 3-2 on the day.
Smid was down 5-1 in the third set on court No. 2 and pulled right back forcing a tiebreaker, which he won 7-4 to clinch the win for Miami over the Fighting Irish. Smid defeated No. 93 Javier Taborga 3-6, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (4).
Peter Hoffman fell to Aaron Talarico in three sets on court No. 4, 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 (5).
The Hurricanes travel to Mobile, Ala. to face No. 13 South Alabama Friday at 2:30 p.m.
