Varsity Eight Highlights UM's Home Regatta On Indian Creek

Miami Beach, Fla. (www.hurricanesports.com) — – The University of Miami varsity women’s eight highlighted the morning races with its first-place finish over North Carolina and Navy with a time of 6:41.0. UNC finished second with a time of 6:44.7, followed by Navy’s 6:56.5.
UM’s varsity women’s eight featured Jenny Krawec, Monika Manios, Jacqui Julien, Dorien ten Have, Amanda Turner, Bridget Gallagher, Yianna Reizakis, Marijka VanderPol and coxswain Meg Venezia.
UM’s home regatta featured split sessions with the Hurricanes vs. UNC, Navy and Syracuse in the morning, followed by another set of racing in the afternoon. The regatta also included UCF vs. Syracuse in the morning and the Golden Knights vs. UNC in the afternoon.
UNC, Syracuse and Navy each won five races on the day, followed by one from UM and UCF. UCF led the way with seven second-place finishes, followed by Syracuse (four), Navy (three), Miami (two) and UNC (one). The Hurricanes finished third four times, Navy twice and UNC once.
UM Crew will host another home event during the spring season, next weekend, March 24 with races against Connecticut and Florida Tech at the UM’s home course on Indian Creek in Miami Beach. The event will be followed by two special boat christenings of an eight, “Liz Dee”, and a four, “Peter Maivia”. UM Crew is housed at the Ron Shane Watersports Complex at 6500 Indian Creek Drive
