Miami Olympian's Dominate Women's Swimming And Diving

Coral Gables, Fla – University of Miami senior Jenny Keim (Ft. Lauderdale, FL) won the women’s 1-meter springboard with a score of 308.15 in her first meet back since the Sydney Olympic Games this summer. Keim edged teammate Michelle Davidson (South Carolina) who took second with a score of 289.30. Keim also took second in the 3-meter springboard (286.15) behind teammate Emily Spychala (Odessa, FL) who recorded a winning total of 322.30.
Sydney Olympian and freshman Manon Van Rooijen (Holland) highlighted the efforts of the Hurricane women’s swim team winning the 100-yard freestyle (52.33) and the 200-yard freestyle (1:51.28). Miami fell to the seventh-ranked Florida women 138-101. Van Rooijen has won two events in each of Miami’s last thee meets.
Senior Scott Gentles (Atlanta, GA) paced the Hurricane men finishing first in the 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.28) and second in the 1000-yard freestyle (9.45.91) as the Hurricane men fell to No. 10 Florida 131-87. Sophomore Kyle Prandi (Strongsville, OH) swept men’s diving with scores of 324.90 in the 1-meter and 378.85 in the 3-meter springboard.
Today was also “Senior Day” marking the University of Miami’s last home Dual meet of the 2000-01 season. The swimmers and divers honored today were Jenny Keim, Jennifer Weir, Scott Gentles, Tom Caplis Ty Hubbard and Nathan Jones.
The University of Miami men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams return to action on Saturday, February 3 at Florida Atlantic University as the men compete against FAU in a dual meet while the women take on FAU and North Florida in a Tri-meet.
