Miami Defeats Providence

PROVIDENCE (AP) – Marcus Barnes put up 20 points and Darius Rice scored 19to put Miami past Providence 78-64 Tuesday night.
It was the first Big East win in five league games for the Hurricanes (9-7,1-4).
Also scoring in double figures for Miami were Leroy Hurd with 11, andRodrique Djahue and John Salmons, each with 10.
Romuald Augustin had 20 points and Chris Anrin added 18 for the Friars(11-5, 2-2), who had won eight of their nine previous games.
Anrin’s 3-pointer gave Providence their biggest lead, 16-11, at 10:43 in thefirst half. But the Hurricanes closed the half with a 29-14 surge behind 12points by Rice and 9 by Barnes.
Rice’s 3-pointer, with 2:39 left in the game, put Miami ahead 73-57 for itsbiggest lead. The closest Providence came the rest of the game was sevenpoints.
Miami shot 50 percent from the field (27-54), holding the Friars to just 36percent (16-45) and keeping all the Friars starters to single digits, with theexception of Augustin.
Augustin was the only Friar starter to score in the first half, netting 15points to keep the Friars close.
