Q&A with Offensive Lineman Greg Laffere

Q&A with Offensive Lineman Greg Laffere

Sept. 20, 2000

Your house has caught on fire, but your family has already gone outside and is safe. What do you run back in to save?
There isn’t anything I would risk my life over.

With your soul on the line, is there a player that you do not want to line up against?
I would not want to go up against (Hall of Fame linebacker) Lawrence Taylor. Watching the New York Giants as a kid, I can remember how he just embarrassed so many offensive linemen.

Who in your family do you idolize?
I idolize my mother, Karen. She has put up with me for 22 years. So, I know she is a strong person. I was ornery growing up and always getting into trouble.

Who do you think is the best player ever at your position?
The best player ever at my position has to be (former Cincinnati Bengals offensive lineman and Hall of Famer) Anthony Munoz.

How would you want the fans to remember you after you leave UM?
I hope people remember me as a tough guy who gave everything he had.

If you could borrow anyone’s life for a day, who would it be?If I could have anyone’s life I would choose to be one of the Backstreet Boys. They get to sing crappy songs, make lots of money, women love them, and in five years nobody will remember them.

What do you think was the greatest sports moment of the past century?
I think the greatest sports moment of the past century was when Jesse Owens won four gold medals at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

What is your favorite TV show?
My favorite TV show is ESPN SportsCenter.

What three people, dead or alive, would you invite to dinner?
I would love to have dinner with Genghis Khan, William Wallace and Harry Truman. Khan and Wallace were warriors when life seemed rather simple. You did what you wanted and if anyone got in your way you settled it man-to-man. It would also be interesting to see if the way they are portrayed in movies is accurate. As for Truman, I would love talk about his decision to drop the bomb on Japan during World War II.
