Hurricanes Announce 2000-01 Schedule

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – University of Miami athletic director Paul Deeand head basketball coach Perry Clark announce the Hurricanes 2000-01 men’sbasketball schedule.

The schedule features 10 games against teams that participated inpost-season play a year ago including seven against teams that advanced tothe 2000 NCAA Basketball Championship.

Miami’s schedule features 15 games at Miami Arena including eightBIG EAST battles — against Boston College (Jan. 7), Connecticut (Jan. 20),Providence (Jan. 28), Seton Hall (Feb. 1), Virginia Tech (Feb. 6), St.John’s (Feb. 10), West Virginia (Feb. 28) and Villanova (Mar. 3).

Miami opens its schedule on the road against Florida Atlantic (Nov.18) prior to its home opener on Nov. 21 versus Columbia at the Miami Arena.The Hurricanes open their BIG EAST Conference schedule at Pittsburgh on Jan.3. Miami’s BIG EAST home opener will be on Jan. 7 versus Boston College.

The Hurricanes non-conference schedule is highlighted by 2000 FinalFour participant North Carolina. Miami will travel to Chapel Hill to facethe Tar Heels on Dec. 4. In addition, Miami will take on perennial powersNorth Carolina Charlotte (Nov. 28) and Memphis (Dec. 21).

On Dec. 16 the Hurricanes will face Big 12 power Nebraska in the HIPHealth Plan Orange Bowl Basketball Classic at the National Car Rental Centerin Sunrise, FL.

“This is an extremely challenging schedule for a young team,” saidhead coach Perry Clark. “Playing such established programs as NorthCarolina, North Carolina Charlotte, Memphis and Nebraska presents a lot ofopportunities and will help prepare us for our difficult league schedule.Our players will need to grow quickly.”
