Butch Davis Is Finalist For National Coach Of The Year

HOUSTON (AP) – Miami head football coach Butch Davis has been named one of six finalists selected Friday for the Bear Bryant Award as college football coach of the year, the Houston Touchdown Club announced.

Also nominated in balloting by the National Sportscasters and Sportswriters Association were Bobby Bowden of Florida State, Bob Stoops of Oklahoma, Dennis Erickson of Oregon State, Lou Holtz of the South Carolina, and Dennis Franchione, who left Texas Christian to coach Alabama.

The winner will be announced Jan. 17.
