Women's Basketball Falls To No. 1 Connecticut, 77-53

CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) – Swin Cash scored 20 points and Svetlana Abrosimovaadded 16 as top-ranked Connecticut beat Miami 77-53 on Tuesday night in the BigEast opener for both teams.
The Huskies (5-0) overwhelmed Miami (2-2) with their full-court pressuredefense and fast-break offense.
Chanivia Broussard had 15 points for Miami, which has lost 14 straight gamesto the Huskies.
Abrosimova, wearing a protective brace on her right ankle after injuring itin practice Friday, made a layup just three seconds into the game and had 10points in the first half.
In the first half, Connecticut shot 47 percent from the field and held Miamito 29 percent. Miami had 14 turnovers in the half.
Connecticut pushed its margin to a game-high 27 points in the second half.But Miami used a 14-2 run to close the gap to 15 on Alicia Hartlaub’s shortjumper.
Connecticut has won 40 straight games in the month of December since losingto Vanderbilt on Dec. 29, 1993.
Connecticut played its fourth straight game without 6-foot-5 center KellySchumacher, who is out with a stress fracture in her right foot. She isexpected back at the end of December.
