Opening Doors for Female Student-Athletes
Longtime University of Miami Athletics supporter Sandra “Sandy” Schultz has made a planned gift to establish the Sandra Schultz and Georgia Tasker Endowed Scholarship for Women’s Basketball.
The scholarship, named in honor of her late wife, Georgia Tasker, reflects their shared belief in women’s athletics and their desire to create lasting opportunity for future generations.
Schultz’s vision extends beyond a single gift. She hopes her commitment will inspire fellow Hurricanes supporters to invest in women’s athletics and expand scholarship support for Miami’s female student-athletes.
“Sports shaped who I am — as an athlete, coach, and teacher,” Schultz said. “Georgia and I believed deeply in the power of women’s athletics to open doors. I hope others will join in supporting these young women and their futures.”
An athlete, coach, and lifelong educator, Schultz understands the transformative power of sport. Athletics shaped her leadership, discipline, and belief in opportunity — values she carried into the classroom and onto the sidelines throughout her career.
Schultz’s connection to the UM began in 1949, when her father first took her to the Orange Bowl for a Canes football game at just three years of age. More than seven decades later, her commitment to the Canes remains as strong as ever.
“We sincerely appreciate Sandy’s continuous and generous support,” Vice President/Director of Athletics Dan Radakovich said. “This scholarship demonstrates what’s possible when our community rallies behind women’s athletics.”
Through her estate gift, Schultz ensures that her and Tasker’s legacy will empower Canes for generations to come.
